What Does Community Development Do?

Advance the development of West Sacramento as a vibrant City where you can live, work and play by providing a comprehensive approach to planning and infrastructure that meets the needs of all segments of the community and facilitates responsible, high quality and well planned growth.

The Community Development Department consists of the Planning, Building, Development Engineering, Environmental Services, Code Enforcement, and Business License Divisions.

The Planning Division is responsible for regulating the location and quality of new development in the City. The Building Division provides building inspection and plan review services for all construction in the City for compliance with International and California Codes. The Development Engineering Division is responsible for performing all professional and sub-professional engineering functions for the City.
